First Aid Q&A for the USMLE Step 1 (First Aid USMLE) – MCatforme Review

After the exam review book and the reference book bundle comes the mock-test version, a question and answer type review book for USMLE Step 1. First Aid Q&A for the USMLE Step 1 another book by Tao Le, who also authored the other First Aid USMLE books which rank top and second for Best USMLE Step 1 Review Books. This spectacular study book covers a ton of questions and answers to stimulate exam experience, as well as offering in-detail explanations for all answer options, both correct and the incorrect ones.

What are its features?

As another First Aid USMLE supplementary book, First Aid Q&A for USMLE Step 1 offers one thousand questions and answers that are written in sequence with the chapters provided in First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. Book Details:

First Aid Q&A for the USMLE Step 1 (First Aid USMLE)Publisher: McGraw-Hill Medical

Effectiveness/Quality:

First Aid USMLE Step 1 Q&A Book has a neat content presentation. Its well-organized topics correspond to the effectiveness in searching for specific topics in preparing the basics. As this book is written following the same chapter order of the other First Aid USMLE titles, I find it suitable even if I read different books alternatively.

When it comes to explaining theories and rationales for each question in the book, they are written in a concise and striking manner. The boldface letters used in displaying the correct answers really help me in tracking the correct answer just at one glance. Explanations are given not only to the correct answers, but also to each one of the wrong answers. They explain why that specific answer was incorrect, how to immediately spot tricky questions, and so forth.

However, some of the answer explanations are too simple. While I like the straight, to the point rationales for the answers, I will need to consult a different resource every time I want a deeper comprehension for the related topic. Although, as this drawback still lies within my expectations from a Q&A type practice book, this does not impair much of the quality that ensues.

Reliability:

When it comes to the reliability, however, First Aid USMLE Step 1 Q&A is relatively below average. While the question types and the practice examination simulates an exam environment, the test questions themselves do not represent the actual questions that will come up in the USMLE. In other words, just reading this Q&A alone will not be able to guarantee students to pass their USMLE. Therefore, this book is best learned along with a content review book as a complement to further refine your basic knowledge on First Aids and USMLE.

On a side note, this book is perfect for students facing their exams during the first and second year in a medical school.

Value:

As regards value, this book comes as attractive in its pricing. One new First Aid USMLE Step 1 Q&A Book is priced at $37, which was relatively cheaper than other question and answer books that I could find. This is the amount charged when purchasing from Amazon, but the price varies depending on which store you choose to buy from.

Also via Amazon, this book is available for rent at around half price. When it comes to purchasing used books, there are plenty stocks starting from $25 depending on the book condition. Many opt to purchase the Kindle version with its $10 discount when compared to the paperback edition.

Availability:

With the same lining at the previous section, I regard this book as highly available. There are a lot of retails that sell this book, that of course includes Amazon. Many decides to purchase the Kindle edition because it is cheaper, but there are also students that like printed books for them to highlight and write notes on.

Conclusion:

First Aid Q&A for the USMLE Step 1 (First Aid USMLE) offers high-yield questions and answers with detailed rationales and explanations for each answer option in the book. The organization of this particular book makes it easy to read along with the other First Aid USMLE books from the same author. In addition, this book is relatively cheaper to purchase. Overall, this Q&A is best when read along with a different review book for USMLE.
