Princeton USMLE Cracking the USMLE Step 1 – MCatforme Review

Cracking the USMLE Step 1 is a review book released by one of the famous test-prep publishers in the nation. The Princeton Review is known to help millions of students with their high-yield review books for college students, grad schools, and other professional careers. This book is currently the latest USMLE review book from Princeton Review, which occurs to be the first edition of the title, as well. Therefore, this review will not have a what’s new corner since there are no previous editions to compare with.

This Princeton USMLE review book is a must-have for USMLE Step 1, especially if you are taking it a long time after your medical school graduation. Princeton USMLE provides many charts and tables that will jog your knowledge on medical studies. This USMLE review contains comprehensive explanations, while also acting as a complete gloss on the topics that will appear in the exam. And so, Princeton USMLE is certainly a great aid to help students pass their USMLE Step 1.

What’s its content?

Despite being the first edition, Cracking the USMLE Step 1 by Princeton Review has lots of points to point out. Starting with the biggest writings that can be seen in the book cover, Princeton USMLE contains two complete practice tests, albeit them being online. Readers will be required to register their books, together with their emails, username, and password to Princeton’s website, but I believe that this process will take only less than five minutes at most. Besides, users are going to have access to more interactive practice and individual score reports for the tests.

Princeton USMLE offers a full content review; a total of eighteen chapters spanning over 800 pages of medical knowledge, complete with illustrative charts and tables. The first chapter briefly introduces the USMLE Step 1, along with quick tips and recommendations for test-takers.

Pros

  1. Relatively affordable price
  2. Illustrative and somewhat concise content

Cons

  1. Lack of reliable reviews

Publisher: Princeton Review

Edition: 1st (July 16, 2013)

Effectiveness/Quality:

Quality wise, there are several characteristics that make Princeton USMLE attractive. One, the presentation of the charts and tables; to learn many subjects, using illustrative graphs is great in providing concise information. For students, the several colored cheat sheets are certainly convenient to carry around. They are also practical for a last minute reading before the actual test.

The content of Princeton USMLE is, however, in black and white. Although, the papers are fairly of a good quality, which on the other hand makes the whole book thicker and heavier. When it comes to the content review, Princeton USMLE provides mnemonics for easy memorization. I find the one for protein synthesis hilarious, which actually makes it easy to absorb and recall anytime. This review book consists of a lot of notes at the side of the book for a quick glossary or the mentioned mnemonics.

Reliability:

Speaking of the reliability, this book is presented with a good format and clear subject reviews. Personally, I would give a lot of points for the reliability. However, there are currently not much student reviews for Princeton USMLE.

Although, Princeton USMLE provides thorough reviews of topics that are frequently tested on the exam as well as its unique and useful exam techniques, Cracking the USMLE Step 1 will most likely improve your performance in the real deal.

Value:

Cracking the USMLE Step 1 by Princeton Review is priced at $31. This would be considered relatively cheap, especially when compared other USMLE review books that are more expensive. If you are purchasing it from a retailer in Amazon, there are also several new books available at less than $30. Princeton USMLE is really recommended for its high value comparison.

Availability:

Princeton USMLE is available at Amazon. There are many stocks available from different retailers, and also a few used books which are priced at a lower rate, as usual. However, Cracking the USMLE Step 1 is not available via renting, and neither it is purchasable at Kindle.

Conclusion:

Cracking the USMLE Step 1, Princeton USMLE is a good review book for USMLE Step 1 from The Princeton Review. The many features offered by this USMLE Review book are recommended for students who are aiming to take and pass the USMLE. If you have not noticed, Princeton USMLE also prints 16 pages of easy-to-tear models which contain the key info for USMLE Step 1 in graphs and tables.

In a nutshell, Cracking the USMLE Step 1 is what you need to prepare and recall everything you learn at your medical school in order to tackle the USMLE Step 1.
