Book Details:

Lippincott NCLEX-RN Q&A Review
Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW)

Edition: 11th edition (April 15, 2013)

ISBN-13: 978-1451172287

Effectiveness/Quality:

Lippincott NCLEX Review Book offers more than six thousands questions which are designed to be challenging for students. Many nursing students found themselves troubled in completing the review book due to its tough and many questions. Although, you will get a feel of the NCLEX-RN exam questions in return. Being able to find the answer pages right after each chapter makes it convenient for students in finding the answers and rationales whenever they need.

In addition, the sample questions in this review book are divided into several sections according to their study topics. While the figure of 6,000 questions may sound tedious, the division by topic provides students with the opportunity to have more reviews per subject. Regrettably, a few categories such as Leadership and Management are not introduced as topics. However, related questions of said subjects are included separately under other topics which makes up for this drawback.

A bigger downside lies in the fact that this book contains quite a few typos. Attentive students and teachers will be able to notice the errors by from the discrepancies between the questions-answers and their rationales. However, it does not cancel the disappointment in having to be observant for other mistakes in the review book; for example, a missing minus (-) sign in the answer options.

When it comes to the CD, I find it a pleasant bonus. The CD-ROM contains lets me choose between learning mode and review mode to practice. While the CD contains additional questions to read, the disc format is unreadable on the current Mac OSX.

Reliability:

As mentioned, the difficulty of this book is set to be high. While Lippincott NCLEX provides quality answer rationales, students may feel intimidated when dealing with numerous tough questions in succession. Although this book prevents test takers from obtaining a false security before actually consuming the necessary amount of topic reviews, this may oppositely become a burden instead. Therefore, it is advised to learn Lippincott NCLEX Review Book together with a different NCLEX Q&A Review that is relatively easier for mind refreshment.

On the other hand, if you are confident and motivated to face the challenging Lippincott Q&A Review, this book simulates an actual NCLEX exam and is a great aid in helping you pass your NCLEX-RN in 75 questions.

Value:

Lippincott NCLEX has a large amount of questions to review. On that note, students are able to receive much material to review with a single purchase. Considering the quality and reliability of this review book, $30 is a suitable price tag for the paperback.

Conclusion:

With category separation and a vast amount of questions for each, this NCLEX Review Book is presented in an excellent Q&A format. The rationales and alternate question patterns further define its effectiveness. Certain drawbacks in quality exist, but the reliability and value of this book far exceed this minor setback.

On the other hand, offering ‘Highest-quality questions’ is not an overestimation for this Lippincott NCLEX Review Book. And so, students may find it easier to digest Lippincott NCLEX-RN along with a different reference book like Kaplan NCLEX-RN Content Review Guide.
